Raepsaet A., Roelants K., Janssenswillen S., Clijnen E., Bossuyt F. 2008. - In search of pheromones in the amphibian skin. Abstract on Benelux Congress of Zoology 2008.
Arent finished his Master degree in 2007, for which he studied the genetic variability of the Crested Newt Triturus cristatus in Flanders. He has now started a PhD study focussing on sex pheromones in amphibians, a study that is part of the ERC program TAPAS (Tracing Antimicrobial peptides and Pheromones in the Amphibian Skin). Candidate compounds are functionally tested and structural information on peptide composition is analysed using modern transcriptome techniques and peptidomics technologies. The combined approach of these methods allows to study several aspects of evolutionary and functional diversification of amphibian pheromones.
